Similarties in Bengali and Marathi

I was watching few Bnagla movies yesterday when I was down with fever.
I do not want to give a wrong impression but you do not need to have a fever to watch Bangla movies.

Finding similar words in Marathi and Bangla intrigued me.
Here are some to begin with .

Energy Problem: Solutions

World has an unquenchable appetite for energy. From motor vehicles for taking us from one place to another, air conditioners and heaters to keep our offices and homes livable, airplanes to takes us across the world, computers, telephones, mobiles and networks to help us communicate and do business, everything, today needs some form of energy.
As the populous developing countries, such as India and China, grow with rapid rate, increasing the standard of living of their citizens, the demand for more products will keep on growing. As the demand for more products increases, so will the demand for the energy to produce those goods.
The conventional form of producing energy from oil, coal are known to be cause of carbon emission issues and the ensuing environmental issues such as global warming.
According to the statistics by OICA, countries like China, India are seeing 25% increase in the production of cars each year. This has created increase demand for crude oil thereby pushing the crude oils costs to highest ever. The cost of barrel has increased from $15 per barrel in 1994 to $30 in 2000 to current rate of more that $80 per barrel (OPEC stats).
Looking at the current environmental issues, the cost of crude and ever growing demand for the much needed energy, made me think : What could be the prospective solution for the worlds energy problem ?

From all the potential source of generating power, such as wind turbines, hydroelectric power plants, thermal plants, nuclear power plants, the nuclear energy seems to be the potentially most viable solutions. It has possibly the lowest environmental impact in terms of carbon emission. Power from nuclear energy sounds like the option of the future.

But generating power from nuclear reactors invoke strong reaction from the citizens of the world due to two reasons:
1) Safety issues of the reactors.
The Chernobyl incident is quite vivid in the memories of the people. A single nuclear meltdown can cause great impact on the environment and the living organism in wide area due to radiations. (list of civil nuclear accidents)
2) Dealing with the spent radioactive waste. Some of the options such as deep bore-hole disposal do not sound like long term solution.

Due to these known issues, the nuclear reactors need to be built in the isolated part of the earth away from densely populated human areas. But that is a temporary solution.
So, provided human race make huge technological developments, a good solution would be to build nuclear reactors not on earth but on some other place such as moon or other planets.

This will solve the problem of nuclear waste and also remove safety concerns.
Even if we can create nuclear reactor on moon, the issue of transmitting energy from the moon to the earth poses a next bigger challenge. Do we hang cables from the moon ? The only way to transmit energy through such distant place is through light.

So, the solution to the energy problems of human race is to have a nuclear reactor in space which transmits energy as light.

But, wait a minute ! Doesn't the sun solve that ? Ironic isn't it ? The solution of the future exists today !

Confusion

What is man seeking from his life ? What makes one feel that his life is meaningful ? Do people who seem to be satisfied with their life, are so because they have accepted that this is life ? Do people's dream ever come true ? If yes, what motivates them to move on ? When does man realize the futility of his deeds ? Does any of this makes sense ? Does writing a blog makes sense ? Seek truth is the doctraine of most of the religions in the world. What difference does it make if you know truth ? Sometimes, I wonder whether the man not intelligent enough to question and understand is the blissful soul ? Is it a boon to be Forrest Gump. Maybe the path and the goal, both are insignificant. Maybe it will take me million rebirths for my soul to rest, if there are rebirths. Maybe it will end up in hell, if there is heaven and hell. But does it matter ?
If nothing matters then why should we worry ?

Intropsection- An excellent thot

This is a quote which I picked up from someone's (http://bugbren.blogspot.com) blog . An excellent thought. So true and subtle !

"If you hate a person, you hate something in him that is part of yourself. What isn't part of ourselves doesn't disturb us...
The things we see,... are the same things that are within us. There is no reality except the one contained within us.
That is why so many people live such an unreal life. They take the images outside them for reality and never allow the world within to assert itself. You can be happy that way. But once you know the other interpretation you no longer have the choice of following the crowd,... the majority's path is an easy one, ours is difficult."

-Hermann Hesse

Need for revamping religion

Today I wasted few of my hard earned dollars and of course, time on a movie "Constantine". The movie was based on the Christian concept of heaven and hell. Thinking profoundly on this concept disturbed me about the fact that all the recent religions are based on shallow concept of reward and punishment. The need of the hour is revamping all the religions over the world and making them philosophically strong.

Let me clarify that I am a Hindu by birth and an atheist by practice. How does an atheist practice is a whole new discussion.

The present major religions practiced: Christianity, Islam, Brahmanism, and Buddhism are corrupted by the incompetent incumbent. I refer to the present form of practice of Hindu religion as Brahmanism. The Underlying philosophy is much more extensive and extensible. The philosophy does not demand a certain ritualistic kind of life. It demands the search for ones own “Dharma” and truthful following of it and respect for the dharma of others. Dharma can be conceived, conceptualized as one’s duty or properties. Even non-living things have a dharma of ones own. An iron had a dharma to glow when heated. Similarly each person understands his dharma and duty and performs it with devotion. The fruits of the work are not the goal of your life, but the path itself is. One needs to be satisfied by performing the duty or dharma. The consequence, result of the dharma should not be the aim. Even a Christian by definition is following the Hindu philosophy and so are people of other religions. The respect for the dharma of other people is the main ingredient missing in today’s people.

There is a certain need to disassociate the philosophy with the Hindu religion. Associating it to Hinduism makes people critical and blind to the essence of the philosophy. The philosophy should be accepted as the universal philosophy of mankind.

Strangely even atheist like me has space in this philosophy J:)

"Eyes" - An Impediment to better Structure of organisms ?

Today I had been wondering about how well formed is human species, which we regard as the highest form of organism known to prevail on earth (ya, call it modesty!!).
But the location of brain in humans is assailable. The topmost exposed location of the brain has made it vulnerable to incognizant dangers lurking at us. Another weak link or chain to human safety is its neck. The brain has been provided with some protection by encompassing it in the skull, but alas, the neck can be broken like a twig!! Once the neck, the channel of food, air, information to and fro from the brain and the rest of the body is severed, we are crippled and many a times dead.
This had set me to think, why so? Why are we structured with so many vulnerabilities? Why has nature developed us this way? This brings into discussion the topic of evolution. I believe organisms have been developed and then tested by evolution. So if we look at most of the mammals, the higher form of organisms, they all are similar in structure in terms of location of brain and neck.
The sensory organ “eye” has to be located close to the brain. The eye being a very complex sensor requires complex system of optic nerves, which need to relay the prodigious amount of signals to the brain within an infinitesimal amount of time. The process still takes 1/7th of a second to complete!! So eye and brain are clamped together for obvious reason, proximity.
But eye is a view to the world. So it has to be in a position, which can give access to maximum span of the world around us. Also the position has to be flexible enough for it to look around as quickly as possible. The blob called head gives us the span and the neck provides us with the flexibility. So the present position is most viable but of course has its own disadvantages. But eye being a strong weapon for the survival of organism, it overwhelmingly overpowers the disadvantage.
So we are a compromise of poor nature.
A better composition of organism is being built by nature somewhere!!
( Need to destroy other organism before they develop!! :))

Right hand-glove

When the winter sets in and the days start getting shorter and colder, I remember my friends who had been resting in the glove compartment of my car. They help me keep my hand warm and active, when I need to scrape my car in those darn cold days and when the car takes time to heat. But, Alas, this winter one day when I got back to my car and wanted to make use of these handy fellows, I found one of them missing. It was my right hand glove. The loss has made me sad and made me introspect my delinquency.
My right hand glove, even in its loss, has made me learn an important lesson
"Always take care of your things"

With due respect, Apostle Namboodiri

Reverend Harish, the man from the hindu ecclesiastic community, has redeemed himself from lowly task of fornication and resorted to priestly deed of preaching.
Once again abstinence has elevated a human to higher order of righteousness.

Here are his few divine words:
"A candle loses nothing by lighting another candle"

Convergence of Hindu philosophy and Modern science

Seeing the offbeat movie "What the bleep do we know", made me feel satisfied that the "truth" and deepness of Hindu philosophy is bound to be revealed to the whole world. The movie starts with the discussion over quantum physics and moves slowly, but interestingly towards the mysterious working of the brain and the cell. It discusses in scientific terms, the oneness of the Atma. The speaker tries to map the Atma to the observer of the Heisenberg's uncertainty theory. The movie is an enriching experience and is a must see for all interested in the convergence of modern science and ancient philosophy. Reinventing the wheel, aren’t we?
