Intropsection- An excellent thot

This is a quote which I picked up from someone's (http://bugbren.blogspot.com) blog . An excellent thought. So true and subtle !

"If you hate a person, you hate something in him that is part of yourself. What isn't part of ourselves doesn't disturb us...
The things we see,... are the same things that are within us. There is no reality except the one contained within us.
That is why so many people live such an unreal life. They take the images outside them for reality and never allow the world within to assert itself. You can be happy that way. But once you know the other interpretation you no longer have the choice of following the crowd,... the majority's path is an easy one, ours is difficult."

-Hermann Hesse

Need for revamping religion

Today I wasted few of my hard earned dollars and of course, time on a movie "Constantine". The movie was based on the Christian concept of heaven and hell. Thinking profoundly on this concept disturbed me about the fact that all the recent religions are based on shallow concept of reward and punishment. The need of the hour is revamping all the religions over the world and making them philosophically strong.

Let me clarify that I am a Hindu by birth and an atheist by practice. How does an atheist practice is a whole new discussion.

The present major religions practiced: Christianity, Islam, Brahmanism, and Buddhism are corrupted by the incompetent incumbent. I refer to the present form of practice of Hindu religion as Brahmanism. The Underlying philosophy is much more extensive and extensible. The philosophy does not demand a certain ritualistic kind of life. It demands the search for ones own “Dharma” and truthful following of it and respect for the dharma of others. Dharma can be conceived, conceptualized as one’s duty or properties. Even non-living things have a dharma of ones own. An iron had a dharma to glow when heated. Similarly each person understands his dharma and duty and performs it with devotion. The fruits of the work are not the goal of your life, but the path itself is. One needs to be satisfied by performing the duty or dharma. The consequence, result of the dharma should not be the aim. Even a Christian by definition is following the Hindu philosophy and so are people of other religions. The respect for the dharma of other people is the main ingredient missing in today’s people.

There is a certain need to disassociate the philosophy with the Hindu religion. Associating it to Hinduism makes people critical and blind to the essence of the philosophy. The philosophy should be accepted as the universal philosophy of mankind.

Strangely even atheist like me has space in this philosophy J:)

"Eyes" - An Impediment to better Structure of organisms ?

Today I had been wondering about how well formed is human species, which we regard as the highest form of organism known to prevail on earth (ya, call it modesty!!).
But the location of brain in humans is assailable. The topmost exposed location of the brain has made it vulnerable to incognizant dangers lurking at us. Another weak link or chain to human safety is its neck. The brain has been provided with some protection by encompassing it in the skull, but alas, the neck can be broken like a twig!! Once the neck, the channel of food, air, information to and fro from the brain and the rest of the body is severed, we are crippled and many a times dead.
This had set me to think, why so? Why are we structured with so many vulnerabilities? Why has nature developed us this way? This brings into discussion the topic of evolution. I believe organisms have been developed and then tested by evolution. So if we look at most of the mammals, the higher form of organisms, they all are similar in structure in terms of location of brain and neck.
The sensory organ “eye” has to be located close to the brain. The eye being a very complex sensor requires complex system of optic nerves, which need to relay the prodigious amount of signals to the brain within an infinitesimal amount of time. The process still takes 1/7th of a second to complete!! So eye and brain are clamped together for obvious reason, proximity.
But eye is a view to the world. So it has to be in a position, which can give access to maximum span of the world around us. Also the position has to be flexible enough for it to look around as quickly as possible. The blob called head gives us the span and the neck provides us with the flexibility. So the present position is most viable but of course has its own disadvantages. But eye being a strong weapon for the survival of organism, it overwhelmingly overpowers the disadvantage.
So we are a compromise of poor nature.
A better composition of organism is being built by nature somewhere!!
( Need to destroy other organism before they develop!! :))
